Vision Board Magic

In October 2014, I published a blog entitled Dream Job. It was a blog about me being a science teacher to young kids, the ones who are too young to be graded but not too young to be inspired and awakened.  After winter break, I decided to get busy, acting "as if" this job were coming my way. I made a vision board. My Science Teacher vision board. Here it is:

Three days after I made this vision board, I had a lead ( a Craig's List posting sent to me by my step-daughter, Quinlan), and very quickly an interview for a teaching job calling for science enthusiasts who love kids! I was hired at my interview on Thursday. I went through training the following Wednesday and taught my first class of eleven kindergarten through 4th graders that day.

I taught them about our solar system, the distances between the planets in our system and had them imagine and create their own planetary systems. I referenced Star Wars, the desert planet Tatooine, ice planet, Hoth and forest moon of Endor.  It all comes in handy- science and science fiction. My kids imagined their own systems.

The following Monday, I taught two more classes on the same topic. I LOVED it!!!!! I have 21 kids whom I get to awaken and inspire. They already know SO much. Their parents have done an amazing job of teaching them about their world and their surroundings. I am so excited to get to be their science teacher for a little while. I am the luckiest person in the world!

Goodbye, Luna.

We lost another friend today. Luna, our sweetest hen.

Luna and Sandy came home the day our first hen, Henny died. Henjay came a week later. Luna's eggs were beautiful and brown.

Luna lost the use of one of her wings at a young age after being attacked by a dog. She escaped that assault and at least two others from a possum before she finally gave her life to feed another.

Luna loved dirt baths and free-range pecking near the compost. Her bad wing had begun to "grey".

Luna loved sleepovers in the garage when the possum was a threat.

Goodbye bird friend. You were much loved.

Ethereal Life (and the Long Island Medium)

I had the great privilege of bearing witness to the well known channel to the spirit world, Theresa Caputo, the Long Island Medium, last Sunday as she brought her Live Experience to Santa Barbara. I was not present to relieve my own anguish or find peace in my heart. I had been offered a ticket and I thought it would be interesting to attend. The only loved ones I have lost as of yet are all four of my beloved grandparents, my father ( I Know that He Loved Me ), and two of my precious cats (Anatomy of a Friend ). I feel whole in my heart about the spirit world being alive and well in a dimension just beyond our reach. The night my Papa passed away, I had a strikingly vivid dream that he was a shaman and he passed his abilities to connect with the natural world to me in my dream, right before he died. When I learned that he had actually passed away, I knew he had come to me in my dream to pass on important information, which I have taken to heart.  What I witnessed with Theresa, confirmed and expanded all of my beliefs. Here are a few examples of what I witnessed, as I remember it:

There was a mother and nine year old daughter who had lost their young son/brother. The brother was right there, describing in pictures and feelings to Theresa, what had happened to him and that he was at peace and watching over his family. He said how proud he was of his sister, that he really enjoyed her Frozen sleepover birthday party and he reassured his mother that there was nothing different she could have done to save him and for her to let go of regret.

There was another family who had lost a son to suicide. The son came though to tell his parents and his brother that he was at peace. He was not being punished in the spirit world for his suicide (a fear that his religious parents must have held), and that there was nothing anyone could have done to save him. It was his decision and that he was at peace. He described to Theresa that he knew of his brother's idea to get his name tattooed on his body and that he appreciated that. He acknowledged that he had been sending signs to his mother and father through the radio, through symbolic licence plates and that he was there with them. It was so beautiful. He even told Theresa his nick name for his mother, which no one could have ever guessed (Woman or Mexican). It was so beautiful to see the family relax in the knowing that their boy was at peace and there with them.

My favorite connection was with a young man who looked hard and seasoned from the pain he must have been carrying. When Theresa asked if he had lost a brother, he nodded, yes, and then added, "lots of them".  As it turned out, he had lost 4 close friends and a brother. They were all five in the room, harassing him through Theresa. They gave her enough specific information for him to know for sure that they were all there and then they gave him their message. They told him to trust love again, to let down his hard exterior that was preventing him for feeling the agony of loss again. They said they were all fine, at peace and together and that they wanted to see him alive and happy, not barely alive and suffering. It was so beautiful to see his face change as she delivered these much needed words of advice to this man. I am sure he felt closer to his "brothers" than ever before, knowing that they were all five watching over him. They even acknowledged a tattoo he had just gotten days before of the number 5, symbolic of them.

I love that the ethereal world allows one to be present with the call of a thought. I am sure I have spent more time with my father now that he has passed away that I ever did when he was alive. I hear my Nana call me "Shelley Baby", with her loving voice all the time. My sister, Stephanie actually received a text message from our Mimi a few years ago. The words that came through were her words, without a doubt.

It was AMAZING to see Theresa work. She changed many lives on Sunday, I have no doubt. She enlightened me and reinforced what I have suspected for most of my life. I love the messages from the spirit world. They were unanimously peaceful, loving, supportive, grateful and humorous.

Vertebrate Fossils from October 2014

Someday, maybe this beach will be a protected monument. It is rich with the secrets of ancient life.
The following fossils were found on the beach at Mesa Lane in Santa Barbara, CA. They are most likely miocene mammalian fossils. They are embedded in very dense (almost metamorphic) sedimentary rock in the form of beach boulders. They are periodically exposed and then re-covered in the sands of the changing tides. I happen to have an eye for seeing them.

Dream Job

I have finally realized what my dream job is after 46 years of asking myself what I love.

I love kids. I love talking to kids, I love teaching them about life and reflecting their gifts back to them. I love to make them laugh and think.  Also, anyone who really knows me knows that I am a total geek who thinks of a discussion on almost scientific topic a total turn-on!

Here's a modified copy of the letter I sent to the Principal of the school where I work as Lunch Lady:

I have been trying to figure out what job would be my dream job and I have come to the conclusion that I would like to pursue, when the opportunity arises, the position of Science Teacher.  I realized that this is my dream job for two reasons, the first is that I would be able to work with EVERY SINGLE CHILD, an honor that really only goes to specialists and our precious librarian. The second reason I want this job is that I LOVE science and I want to infect the kids, our kids, with the same passion that I have.

Here are my credentials as of today:

BA in Anthropology from CSULB, with pre-med courses completed, and a minor in Chemistry.

I have taken classes in Astronomy and Geology at SBCC for fun.

I am an amateur paleontologist and geologist. I have discovered and photographed over 100 vertebrate fossils on the beaches of Santa Barbara.

I study Great White Sharks by reading all I can about them and following the Shark Research Committee website daily.

I worked in pharmaceutical sales for 9 years, from 1995-2004, which honed my knowledge of the human body, in health and sickness. I also learned to be a skilled educator and communicator, regularly engaging in discussion with physicians about disease states, medicines and other therapies used for treatment.

I have always loved science. I love Astronomy, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Geology, Oceanography, Paleontology, Evolutionary Biology, Entomology,  Cosmology, and Environmental Science. I don't think there is a single branch of science that doesn't interest me. I'm a total geek.

I realize that you currently have a science teacher. I just realize that an opening for this position could potentially open up at some point and I want to be ready and qualified to apply for the job.

There. I said it. I want to be a Science Teacher.
